Annette Stolba has lived in Chaffee County for most of her life, graduating from Buena Vista High School. After completing her Associate in Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice from Trinidad State Junior College, she attended the Buena Vista Police Department Reserve Academy, becoming the first woman in uniform for Buena Vista Police Department as a reserve officer.
She was hired in 1983, by Sheriff Harold Thonhoff as a dispatcher in the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.
In 1990, Sheriff Ken Dahl promoted her to Communications Supervisor/Manager. Annette was instrumental in converting the Sheriff’s Office to computers and served on the committee to choose the software systems used for the office.
While still performing the duties of Communications Manager, Annette is also the sheriff’s office IT person with assistance from the County IT department. Annette has written several grants which has assisted countywide emergency services in transitioning from VHF radios to the Digitally Trunked Radio systems they currently use, therefore saving the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Annette, along with former detentions Commander Rick Holland was a driving force in obtaining a building and constructing a permanent Emergency Operations Center, saving the county thousands of dollars by using mostly inmate labor to do the construction. She was instrumental in encouraging the county to hire a full time emergency manager, and served as the backup emergency manager for several years.
