Jan Velltri, a Salida native, was born and raised in Salida, Colorado. She graduated from Salida High School. After high school she began her working career in banking working 17 years for a local Salida bank. Ms. Velltri went on to work for the City of Salida and later into the real estate business. In 2010, she began her career at the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office as a Communications Officer in the Dispatch Center. In 2017, she accepted the position of Victim Advocate. She and a team of volunteers are dedicated to providing assistance to law enforcement and the unfortunate victims of crime as they enter the criminal justice system.

U VISA Information

The U nonimmigrant status (U visa) is set aside for victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and are helpful to law enforcement or government officials in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity. The U Visa provides eligible crime victims with nonimmigrant status the ability to temporarily remain in the United States while assisting law enforcement.

You may be eligible for a U nonimmigrant visa if:

  • You are the victim of a qualifying criminal activity.
  • You have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse as a result of having been a victim of criminal activity.
  • You have information about the criminal activity.
  • You were helpful, are helpful, or are likely to be helpful to law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime.
  • The crime occurred in the United States or violated U.S. laws.
  • You are admissible to the United States. If you are not admissible, you may apply for a waiver.

In order to apply for a U Visa, Form I-918, Supplement B, must be signed by an authorized official of a certifying law enforcement agency, and the official must confirm that you were helpful, and currently being helpful, or will likely be helpful in the investigation.
