Undersheriff Joe McGuire is a Colorado native. He grew up in the Leadville area and at age 15 moved to Salida where he attended Salida High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy serving two tours off the coast of Vietnam and being honorably discharged in 1969.
He began his career in law enforcement in 1969 with the City of Thornton Police Department. In 1972 the neighboring city of Federal Heights became incorporated and established a police department. Joe wanted to be part of the creation of that department and was employed by the Federal Heights Police Department. Joe progressed through the ranks to the position of lieutenant, second in command of that agency.
In 1989, Joe and his family desired to move away from the Denver metro area and relocated to Clear Creek County, Colorado, where he served as Undersheriff with the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office.
In 2001, Joe desired to return to Chaffee County where he grew up and make it his home again. Joe serves with the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office where he has progressed through the ranks to the most recent position of Undersheriff.
Joe has dedicated his whole life to law enforcement and has earned a degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.
