Red Flag warnings are issued by the National Weather Service, during these times there should be no open burning.  They are issued due to current weather conditions and outlook and are usually several hours in a day and temporary.  Red Flag warnings are issued on a day by day basis, dependent on the weather, normally when the weather is going to be hot, dry and windy.

Fire restrictions are issued thru a resolution via the Board of County Commissioners, usually upon the request of the County Fire Marshall, which is the Sheriff.  Fire restrictions are for a longer term and have different levels of restriction.  At this time, Chaffee County does not have any fire restrictions.
