On August 5, 2019, at approximately 1758 hrs the Chaffee County Communications Center received a call of a shooting at a residence in Poncha Springs.

Personnel from both the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Salida Police Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival they found 1 male, Vincent Stephen, age 37, suffering from gunshot wounds. Chaffee County EMS transported Stephen to HRRMC where he was pronounced dead.

Personnel from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office secured the scene and CBI was requested for assistance.

I person was taken into custody as being involved in the shooting however the circumstances that led to the shooting are still under investigation.

The scene of the shooting continues to be secured by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.

The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.
