Possible scam attempted on local residents

Salida, Colorado

August 15, 2018

The Chaffee County Communications Center has received several calls in regards to a possible scam that is being attempted on local residents.  According to callers, persons are contacting residents of our county and representing themselves as employees of various tv providers. They are telling people that they have won tickets to the Seven Peaks Music Festival however they will have to pay taxes on the tickets and they then request a money order for the taxable amount.

All residents are cautioned that this is more than likely a scam. At no time should personal information be given out such as date of birth, social security number, bank information, etc. If you are contacted ask for the name of the person you are speaking to then verify this information with the company they represent before any money is sent out.

For more information contact the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office at 719-539-2596.
