Salida High School senior, Michael Feather was awarded a
$500 scholarship from the County Sheriffs of Colorado.
The organization awarded 31 scholarships statewide to
students who were selected based on “leadership skills,
merit, character, involvement, purpose and need,” Sheriff John Spezze said. The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office participates in the scholarship program every year and this year had five applicants.
Winners are selected by a citizens committee in each county. Applicants are required to live full time in Colorado and plan on attending a Colorado university, college or trade school.
Feather will use the money to help pay for studies at Metropolitan State University in Denver, where he wants to get his degree in aviation with hopes of becoming a commercial pilot. Feather plans on attending ATP Flight School in Denver for certification as a commercial pilot.
County Sheriffs of Colorado has offered the scholarship program for 39 years, and funds come from donations from individuals and businesses.
