Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze has announced that the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office will host its second annual Citizens Police Academy beginning Tuesday, September 19th, 2017 at the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, 641 W 3rd St, in Salida beginning at 6pm.

The Citizens Police Academy offers residents over the age of 21 an opportunity to become familiar with law enforcement, communications and detentions functions of the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office. The academy gives participants a very realistic insight into the operations of the sheriff’s office as well as getting a basic understanding of law enforcement operations and responsibilities as a whole. In addition participants will learn about tactical operations, investigations procedures, crime scene inveatigation and will get the opportunity to participate in firearms training. Please note, firearms training does not satisfy statutory requirements of range instruction for CCW permits.

Classes will be conducted Tuesday evenings beginning September 19th and will run through October 27. Classes will be from 6pm to 8pm each Tuesday night.

If interested please pick up a Citizens Academy Application at the Chaffee County Records Division located at 641 West 3rd St in Salida between the hours of 8a and 4p Mon-Thurs. All applicants must pass a limited background check to be eligible to participate.

All applications must be submitted to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office by Wednesday, September 6th, 2017
