The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office has identified the boater who died on the Arkansas River yesterday, June 27, 2017, as Mark L Wier, age 64, from the Lafayette, Colorado area.

Wier was on a private raft trip on the Arkansas River in Browns Canyon, which is in Chaffee County, Colorado, approximately 14 miles north of Salida, when he fell into the water while going through the Widowmaker rapids. Wier was rescued by fellow rafters and CPR was performed, however he was pronounced dead at the scene.
