FIRE DANGER INFORMATION IN CHAFFEE COUNTY AS OF JUNE 29, 2017
CHAFFEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Salida, Colorado
PRESS RELEASE
June 29, 2017
Due to the continuing dry conditions in Chaffee County combined with the continued windy conditions the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service has begun to look closely at the increased fire danger throughout our area. Although we do not meet all criteria for fire restrictions at this point if dry weather continues there is a good possibility that fire restrictions will be enacted, at least in the unincorporated areas of Chaffee County, in the near future.
With the upcoming Fourth of July holiday bringing increased visitors to our county along with the use of fireworks I want to remind both local citizens and our visitors to use extreme caution, whether you are camping and enjoying a fire or celebrating with fireworks. It takes one careless act or one unattended campfire to start a wildfire. Due to the increased numbers of fires burning in our state as well as across the country resources begin to become limited putting a strain on our firefighters and equipment available to fight fires.
I also want to remind everyone that no time are fireworks allowed in our national forests.
With that please have a fun and safe Fourth of July holiday weekend.
For more information please contact Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze at 719-539-2596.
