Today, April 19, 2017 at 7:18 pm the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a plane that had gone down in a field approximately ¼ mile north of Harriet Alexander Field, which is just west of Salida, Colorado.

Chaffee County Sheriff personnel responded to the scene and found a single engine Cessna 210 in the middle of a hay meadow. The pilot, Serena Welcher, age 34, from Page Arizona, had walked away from the crash and contacted emergency personnel.

Welcher related that she was in route from Page and was planning to spend the night in Salida. She stated that on approach to the airport she experienced engine failure and lost power and set the plane down in the field making contact with a center pivot sprinkler system causing moderate to severe damage to both the plane and the sprinkler system. Welcher sustained no injuries.

The plane will remain on scene overnight and the NTSB is expected in Salida on Thursday, April 20th, to investigate the accident.
