PRESS RELEASE

January 19, 2017

On January 18, 2017 at approximately 9:00 pm the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on County Road 372A on a report of a family fight.

Upon arrival deputies contacted an adult female suffering from severe facial injuries. Investigation disclosed that this same victim was in her residence with her two juvenile children and her husband, later identified as Justin Allen Lang, age 30 from Buena Vista.

According to the victim, Lang, who was very intoxicated, became angry at her and started assaulting her while her children were present. During the assault the children were able to run out of the house to a neighbor’s house where they were able to call for help.

When deputies arrived they found the victim at a neighbor’s house after she was able to escape from her attacker. Deputies responded to the residence where the assault occurred and attempted to make contact with Lang. He refused to answer the door and had barricaded himself within the residence.

A perimeter was established outside the home and the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office Tac Team responded to the location. Several attempts were made to establish contact with Lang, however he refused to communicate with law enforcement. After numerous attempts failed to establish communication with the suspect chemical munitions were dispersed into the home and the tac team made forcible entry into the home. Lang was found inside the residence and he was arrested without incident.

The victim was transported to the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.

Lang was transported to the Chaffee County Detentions Center where he was charged with First Degree Assault, a class 3 Felony, Harassment, a class 3 Misdemeanor, Criminal Mischief, a class 3 Misdemeanor and Child Abuse.
