Cottonwood Mudslides Update

On July 6, 2015 the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Forest Service and Chaffee County Road and Bridge met at the slide area adjacent to Cottonwood Lake. The area was surveyed for any more slide activity and to assess the safety of the area. The area appeared to be stabilizing however the National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rains in the area both Monday afternoon and Tuesday. If there are more rains the area will be checked once again to determine stability.
As is stands at this time County Road 344 and the Cottonwood Lake area and Cottonwood Campground will remain closed thru Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Over the next two days Chaffee County Road and Bridge will be working to remove all the debris left behind after last weeks mudslide.
On Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 0600 access will open to Cottonwood Lake and campground barring any unforeseen issues.
