Injured hiker assisted by search and rescue volunteers
Chaffee County Search and Rescue-South (CCSAR-S) assisted a Denver woman who suffered a broken ankle on the Waterdog Lakes Trail on Sunday. A passing hiker contacted Chaffee County Communications Center at about 1:30pm to report that Wendy Wallach, 45 had slipped and injured her ankle while descending from Waterdog Lakes.
Chaffee County Search and Rescue – South mobilized 11 rescuers who participated in the rescue of Wallach. They were assisted by two members of Chaffee County EMS who also hiked up the trail to provide medication to the injured woman as the members of CCSAR-S carried her down the trail using a “big wheel” Stokes litter.
CCSAR-S would like to remind everyone that the monsoon season is underway and it is especially important to finish your hike or ride early in the day to avoid thunderstorms. Don’t forget to pack rain gear and plenty of food and water. More information on what to bring can be found at http://chaffeesarsouth.org.
