missing rafter’s body found

The body of a 31-year-old woman, missing since Saturday evening when the raft she was in overturned in the Arkansas River north of Salida, was discovered at about 5:45pm yesterday (Wednesday) on the east bank of the Arkansas River at the confluence of the Little Arkansas River near Salida’s south city limits.  The victim, Amanda Taylor of Vernal, Utah was tossed from the raft when it rode over a diversion dam on the river at about 10pm Saturday.  Her six companions in the craft survived the accident.

The victim’s body was found by her brother who, along with other family members, had remained in Salida to search for her.  The location where the body was found is about three miles downstream from the point where the raft overturned.

The body was released to the coroner.  An autopsy was scheduled for today in Colorado Springs.
