A 26-year-old Buena Vista man, a registered sex offender from a 2010 conviction for unlawful sexual contact, is in the Chaffee County Detention Center after his arrest today for the alleged assault of a twelve-year-old girl.  The man, Trent Dean Boyer of Buena Vista, is charged with sexual assault on a child, a class 4 felony; and child abuse, a class 2 misdemeanor.  He is being held on bond of $20,000 set by County Court Judge William Alderton.  Boyer is scheduled for a court appearance next Tuesday at 8:15am.

The sheriff’s office received a call from a Buena Vista resident just before 6am today who reported that the victim had appeared at his door, upset and crying, saying that a man who had stayed at her home as a guest overnight had sexually groped her as she was preparing for school.  Deputies responded immediately and after interviewing the girl, went to her house where they encountered Boyer standing outside.  Based on the evidence at the scene, Boyer was taken into custody.  The victim was not injured.

The Chaffee County Department of Health and Human Services, Buena Vista Police Department, and an investigator with the local office of the district attorney assisted with the investigation.

The sheriff’s office is requesting that any other person who may have been a victim of Boyer’s actions notify the agency as soon as possible by calling Detective Sergeant Andy Rohrich at 719-530-5729.
