The body of Sue Johnson, 55, the Salida resident who was the subject of an extensive two-day Search and Rescue mission in the Brown’s Creek area in Chaffee County, was discovered this morning (Friday) at about 11:30am by a search dog and handler from the Buena Vista Correctional Facility.  The deceased woman was found in a sitting position with her back against a tree about fifty yards from a side road.  There was no obvious trauma to the body and authorities at this time do not consider the death suspicious, although the investigation into the incident will continue with the assistance of the Salida Police Department and the Chaffee County Coroner’s Office.

The woman’s body was removed by Coroner Randy Amettis and transported to the county morgue in Salida.  An autopsy is planned but has not yet been scheduled.

About twenty volunteers from the Chaffee County Search and Rescue team participated in the mission.
